Tangles travelling far away

I must get back to travelling tangles again! It is such a miracle how small sheet of paper with some marks on it can make your day and lead to something else! Yesterday, when I was back in a sad mood, I got happy mail from Australia and Sue Zanker. It was beautiful! I haven´t done much about it yet, but looking at it laying here on my desk in my studio. She also sent me a tile she had made as a gift. I love that tile and my mood changed to a brighter one! I went to the beach with my dog and saw her running and jumping in the water! That was happiness! 

When I am finished with the tiles I´ll post it here in my blog.   Today I went to tanglepattern.com searching on her name and found three exciting patterns of Sue. Gord was the one I wanted to try immediately.

Gord is in the background on this tile. I loved it from the start. It is a pattern with possibilities and as I always appreciate geometry I just got lost in this! I used string 156 (Bunny Wright) and Reticulated (Livia Chua) wanted to play here!  Thank´s to Sue Zanker for this inspiration! The sun is shining here now!

Color or not color

I love color. I wouldn´t be a painter if I didn´t. I get excited when I work with color, almost obsessed! But when I tangle it is something else. I appreciate color. It is not that. But to tangle, only using black and white and the greyscale in between, that is something else. Only simple tools, a black micron, a pencil 2B, a white tile - that keeps my focus in another way. The moment is what exsists and I don´t let the past o future disturb my balance. That´s what I need meditation for. To be in the moment and not worry.

So this evening I returned to basic. Not very often I do two challenges in one. But this time it came natural. Joey´s weekly: finish my tangle and I am the Diva´s challenge #283. Patterns: BeeLine, Sprigs (Michele Beauchamp), Centre Squares (aleesha Sattva). A lot of Squares needed Sprigs! 

About Aronia and shaving foam experiment

My last spilling for the Diva´s challenge didn´t come out the way I wanted. The suger in the berryjuice was too much for my pens. Today I made one more try, following an advice from another blog, and I washed the paper when it was dry to get rid of the sugar. I did, but the color was also faded.

This time I remembered to take a before-pic!

I think I am pleased with this result! The pen went so smoothely over the surface (watercolorpaper 200g). I had fun and I had a lot more tangles, than I use to do! Here they are: Schlingl (Ela Rieger), Tizzy (Hanny Waldburger), Appearance (Sandra Strait), Metro (Anya Ipsen), Ovolution (Sandra Chatelain), Golven (Mariët Lustenhouver), Beadline (Margaret Bremner) and Tipple.

As I had so fun with this I wanted to try what a lot of people do: Shavingfoam-art. It is very easy to do. But I would have done it outdoors! Now my studio smells of masculine shavingfoam, and thats not fun!

I used food-colors and these are the tiles I made for tangling later. But I had to give one a try! Watercolorpaper 200g is ok to do this on or original tiles (I made some on ATC). the heavier paper, the better I think.

So here is my first tangling on a marbled surface. Patterns: Whirlee (Lynn Shelton Mead), Beadline (Margaret Bremner) and Dorsal (mine). I think this is a great technique if you want to make cards for birthday or such things. Anyhow it is fun and relaxing. But now I have to get rid of the heavy smell from the shaving foam! I can´t stand it this way! :) 

Time limit

Sometimes you do have a natural timelimit doing things. So I had this morning. But I wanted to do my meditation before I started with the tasks of the day. After doing this I felt like it might be healthy to have a timelimit somtimes! I couldn´t overdo anything. Just be focused and careful.

String 155. Patterns: Mooka, Tipple, Florz, all official tangles, Beadline and KrliQs (Margaret Bremner). Now I am ready for the rest of this day!

Another BeeLine

Lynn Mead made a post in her blog recently with a variation of BeeLine. She hade used a Rope-string and the outcome was so special.  

I decided to try her variation with string 154 (Nancy Newlin)and this is the result of my first effort. It was fun allthough I had to be very observant where my lines went. I will try this again because I hope it will lead me to a more deliberate way of using BeeLine. Thank´s Lynn Mead for sharing your process! the round pattern I used is Ovaluation (Sandra Chatelain), a pattern I recently refound among my sketches and early zentangles! 

BeeLine

The new focustangle in Square One is BeeLine. One of those official zentangles I learned from Beckah Krahula´s book "One Zentangle a day". I haven´t used it since. It is a beautiful tangle and I have seen it done so well. At that time I didn´t appreciate my outcome. That´s the reason why I haven´t returned to it.

Now I took the chance. As I felt brave today and assertive (that I learned from Caesar Milan I have to be with our dog) I went on with string 153 and let BeeLine take it´s place. I am glad I did. Not that it is perfect but i enjoyed doing it so much that I belive I´ll get back to this pattern again! Bambooz (Julie Evans) is following the string. I wasn´t thinking of framing this, but the thing is there were some splashes from my spilling on tiles earlier left on my desk and some of that came on my new fresh tile. Wud (Joni Feddersen) saved the whole situation for me.

About the spilling and Diva´s challenge. I made one more inspired by Anya Ipsen. She used Aroniaberries and I have a lot of them outside my house so I tried that too.

I had some trouble with this. The color from the Aronia is just beautiful but my pens didn´t like to work on that. Maybe I should have tried to soak up some of the juice before drying... I´ll try to work on that since I loved the color I got from it! The patterns are: Tizzy (Hanny Waldburger), Ruutz and Trelina (both by Eni Oken). Now when I look at this I think of Ghostbusters:)!

IAST 160

This week Adele Bruno has chosen Fengle and Shattuck for her challenge no 160. Not only that, she has chosen a string that does make this for a true challenge. Fengle is what you can say a high-focus-pattern. I have done it a couple of times. But the pattern in itself is to me a challenge. To work with it in this string, I didn´t know what to do with it!  But sitting here staring on the tile and the string - well after a while I just started in the middle section.

Then I sort of cutted Fengle up into pieces. This is the outcome. And that was not a planned one! That makes me satisfied with the process and that is good enough for now.
