28th-30th of September and Joey´s 7-8/9 challenge

I have been away to Malmö for the weekend and haven´t had much time for tangling. But On the train I made my calendarpage!

I felt like going for Rain (zt), but the lines are wobbling, the train is not a steady place1 I had some fun with it though!

As for Joey´s challenge, I didn´t do them until today, since I wanted to have some peace and quiet doing this. I took my time and made both tiles today:

No. 7/9: The pattern to be added was ´NZeppel! One favourite of mine again!

No. 8/9: And this time Printemps!

Here is the whole thing so far:

Yes, I added some more pink in African Artist (Tina Aqua Hunziker) and one more Muscari (Elaine Benfatto).

Joey´s 6/9 challenge

Happy Monday, Joey´s challenge! The 6th of 9 tiles. The pattern to use this time was Ginili (Randi Wynne-Parry). I haven´t tried Ginili before, but I have seen it. Such a beautifully flowing pattern! Loved it from the start! Here is my 6th:

The other patterns: Cruffle (Sandy Hunter), Cubine, Tripoli, Diva Dance, Evoke and Tipple. Here is all so far:

Whatever will come on next three, I know one thing: It will come with a lot of fun!

Joey´s challenge 5/9

At last Monday and no 5 in the mosaic-challenge from Joey! A new pattern introduced: Muscari by Elaine Benfatto. Haven´t seen this pattern before!

No 5 means this is the middlesection! I felt like my version of Muscari needed some pink (I admit, I was inspired to do so from my travelling tangles adventure yesterday). Don´t know if this was a good decision or not. Well well, I have to be patient, no rush it is only a week till next tile! Here is my mosaic so far:

Not a good pic, but anyhow it will be better when I can use the daylight, which I will when I take the final pic!

Joey´s challenge 4/9

No 4 is done! This time Joey added a pattern new to me. It is called Breach by Yu Ru Chen. A fun pattern that can go lots of ways!

Breach is easy to learn and I think this pattern will stay in my pile of favourites! The others are: Bales, Nipa, Evoke (all Zentangle) and then Beadlines (Margaret Bremner and some Dewdrops. The Nipa variation is something I wanted to try from Lynn Shelton Mead´s Tangledeck.

This is like going on a Tangle-trip in more than one way. First just let the string guide the whole design, then unexpected adventures along the way and and having a map (Tangle Decks) in my bag! A lot of fun is going on! Here is the entire pic so far:

Joey´s challenge 3/9

At last I got the time to do this! Joey choose the third pattern to includ to be Cruffle (Sandy Hunter). I love to play with theese orbs and they can change a lot! Here is my tile no 3:

My patterns here are Diva dance, Cadent, Huggins, Tripoli, Fescu, Pookeroot, Cubine and Cruffle. Here is what the mosaic looks like by now:

Love to do this, it excites me a lot since I like surprises! I don´t know where it is going! One question has grown in my mind: Among these patterns my own choices are official zentanglepatterns except one... how come?

Joey´s weekly part 2 and some surprises

The first surprise today. I got a pre-birthday-gift! Something that I really wanted but found too expensive! The zentangle-app! I haven´t discovered everything yet, but I have seen some interesting videos that are soo inspiring! I am so grateful! Today is a beautiful day. Joey has published part two of the 9-tilechallenge and this was a surprise too! She wanted us to add Merryweather (Sandy Hunter), which happens to be another of my favourites! Here is the result:

I went on with  African Artist (Tina Hunziker), Cadent (Zt), Merryweather, Tripoli (Zt) and Diva Dance(ZT). Left an empty space, which I am not sure will be an emty space in the end! But I felt like leaving it like this

It is so fun to put the tiles together! I had to take a second alloverpic.

I found out quickly that the size of all tiles together is the same size as one Opus-tile. I have cut one myself sometime ago, but not dared to go for it yet. But Joey´s challenge gave me the courage and an idea how to manage this and still use the zentanglemethod, no planning, just be in it and see what happens next. It is so fun! I love it. Don´t know where it leads that will be another surprise but here is what happened so far:

I leave the shading till I have done the whole piece, since I also leave the decision about color or not. One stroke at a time. No rush. Exactly the same method I use working on ordinary tiles. I find this so relaxing and satisfying.

Joey´s challenge and a fresh start!

Made by Joey has moved from the old page to this. It is a fresh start! The new challenge is so exciting! We are supposed to use 9 tiles and get something to include in our tiles each week. Here is my start:

Nine tiles with a penciled border and a string running all over the tiles. Then the first challenge: Include African Artist (Tina Hunziker) in the first tile:

And here is the closeup:

The patterns I used: African Artist (which is an old favourite of mine, now remembered!),Orbs-de-la-Dee (Anneken van Dam), Bee Bug (Sarah Fowler), Beadline (Margaret Bremner) and Cadent. I can´t wait till the next pattern is announced! this is so fun!

19th, 20th and 21st of July

The last three days I have used two tangles that has been a challenge to me. Sez and Peanuckle. They have landed on my tiles, in my sketchbook and now in the calendar.

Sez was the one I started with on the 18th but it followed to encourage me to go for Peanuckle, which I put in a Dingbatz just to be sure it wouldn´t run away! On the 20th, I combined it with Asian Fans, (which is in the Joey´s challenge this week), Msst and Printemps, and today the weather is gloomy, so Msst continued and now I tried to put Peanuckle under it using what I learned on the tile yesterday with Tranzending technique. Mooka and also Fescu joined.

Experiments and challenges.

The first one today I made on a recycled watercolor painting. On both my tiles I combined Made by Joey´s challenge with guestblogger Susie Ng and I am the Diva´s guestpost Jessica Davies. The recycled one came out like this:

This might be more focus on Peanuckle than on Asian Fans (Suzanne McNeill). But Asian Fans are there like a shelter for Peanuckles I think and then Marnie (Chrissie Frampton) also took place. I regret my try with the shading with Distress markers here, they didn´t work the way I intended. But I kind of like it anyway.
Then the next tile:

Here is my experiment. I have seen  something called Tranzending. As I understand it, it is like getting a pattern look transparant and let another pattern show through it. Well I worked hard on getting it look like something today, using Asian Fans over Peanuckle. I can´t tell if  my try  worked or not, but it was an experience. The technique was demonstrated on a seminar with Maria and Rick and ofcourse I wasn´t there so I had to guess how to do it.

Joey´s challenge no. 173

I haven´t been doing Made by Joey´s challenges for a while, but I have been there now and then just to see what is coming up. Today Joey has a guest-blogger, Michele Wynne making the rules for this weeks challenge. I have been following Michele and her blog coffee and creativity for some time and knew she would make something fun out of this! Andshe did. We are supposed to use the Rope-string and keep it simple.

I failed to keep it simple. But here it is. As I wanted to try out more to draw in a round I couldn´t resist doing this. So many patterns popped up at once and wanted to be there! It is crowded. But I had fun doing this and it is like patternsampler :). I have tried the ropestring once before so I am happy I got back to it! Thank´s Michele for the challenge!

2 challenges

I  am a little busy these days. I have made my daily tiles but the post will include both yesterday and today and I won´t speak too much about it. First one I made yesterday, but finished it today.

Joey´s challenge no. 139. A finish-my-tile-challenge. Joey´s start is the Mooka. I added Tripoli,Diva Dance, Tipple, Seawave (Ginny Lu) and Off Key (Lori Byerly.

The next one is for IAST 171:

Crescentmoon and Seawave (Ginny Lu). Crescentmoon is one of my favourites. It always make a tile dramatic in my opinion. The string for this challenge was aimed for Seawave!

Two challenges or more

Tomorrow I am going to Uppsala with my choir, Siljans Vocalensemble. We are having a concert in a medival church called Rasbo Kil. To sing is a very physical activity and it is easy to find similarities between singing and drawing. Zentangle is about focus. Singing in a choir is also about focus. To prepare myself I have done two challenges that became three. One last night, for Joey´s weekly no. 138 also became one more for the Diva´s UMT this week!

This is also a "finish my tile"-challenge. Joey started it all with Twile (Lesley Scott Gillian). It is a nice little weavy-pattern that I have done before, but forgotten about. I added EAXY(Nadine Roller), just a little Cracked (lori Howe), Flux and Tipple. About the Cracked; I had made more of this, but then the tile felt to "Cracked", so I darkened a lot of it. Then I needed Wud (Joni Feddersen) as a border. EAXY was the reason I made it on a rennaisance tile, I was curious to see what i looked like.

Next tile is today´s meditation and IAST 170.

The patterns are Oke (Michele Beauchamp) and Jelly Legs (Amber Davis). Jelly Legs is a new pattern and it reminds me of a sort of candy that is called "fried eggs"!

As I am going away until Sunday evening I won´t post anything. So until then, Happy Tangling! Now I am going into music!

Halloween 2 and a happy mail of travelling tangles

Today I made one more Halloween-tile. This time for Joey´s weekly challenge.

I did this on a marbled tile and I belive the outcome is different than what I use to do. Unfourtunately I forgot to take a before-pic, the tile was really beautiful without  anything on. But that is me. I started with the Wud-pumpkin (Joey´s start)and I used the colors on the tile as a string. Wud is a pattern by Joni Feddersen. The other patterns are:Web (Suzanne McNeill), Quill (SSB), Boze (Jan Steinle), Cruffle (Sandy Hunter) and Tipple.

Here Is my pumpkin, grown in my garden:

Yesterday mail was so nice! I got one more happy mail from Joey van Oort! It is laying here in front of me waiting to be done. Here is her nice mail for me:

Thank´s Joey for these inspiring tiles! I look forward to do this!

With interruptions!

The Rennaisance-tile is something I do have to practice a lot I belive. I used it today for Joey´s challenge no. 136.

The quality of the paper is different from white tiles. The surface is softer and the shading has to be done much lighter, or not done at all. Or did I miss something? I have seen a lot of beautiful rennaisancetiles done. When I see my own effort I know I have to go on to improve. But this tile is done during other circumstances than I am used to. Iris, our puppy has been around trying to eat my studio! The interrupts are many, my focus is not what it should be. Another thing happened. When I should pic up my camera I found out that she had eaten upp the USB connection between the computer and the camera! My God! Lucky for me I found another camera which I haven´t used for years, so I reloaded the battery to that one and also found the USB ok. So I have been disturbed enough today. But here is the tile anyway. Patterns: Fracas, Onamato, Pokeroot and Maria´s variation on Flux! I had to try that since I never have given it a chance really after I fell in love with the variation of Rick!

Black and Renaissance

I ran out of black tiles a couple of weeks ago. I have worked on other black tiles handcut by myself, but since I love those black original tiles I have missed them. Two days ago I got my original black tiles and yesterday I just went for it. It was so fun!

Now I am on the go again! I used string 180 (Beth Snoderly) and patterns: Cruffle (Sandy Hunter), Chakra (SSB), Mooka, Bales and Tipple.

Today I tried a Renaissance tile for Joey´s weekly challenge no 135.

I don´t work on rennaissance tiles too often. Don´t know why because I am satisfied most of the time with the result.  I do find the shading difficult depending on the surface and the color of the tile. I like to keep it simple and use just a few tools like pencil and micron. Here the patterns are Dicso (Mina Hsiao), Drogon (Lily Moon) and Msst. The string is Joey´s.

Thorn Paper

Joey´s challenge this week is about Thorn-paper technique. This is about curiosity. Who doesn´t like to peep through a hole to find out what is on the other side? This is the same thing I belive. Joey had made a Thorn-paper string for us to work with. Here is my result:

I used  Starcrossed (Jenna Black) and 2n5 (Anita Roby Lavery). And some shading. This is fun to do and very fascinating!

Daily meditation with Joey´s challenge no 133

It has been a busy but beautiful autumn-day today. Mostly about training a little Pumi. Walking nicely along the street, playing at the beach with her friends and then school in the afternoon! Coming home I grabbed a challenge that just kept me going: Joey´s finish my tile-challenge. A happy one with a beautiful start: Relly-Telly One (Karin Klang-Meier). I might go for it again, since I loved that Relly-Telly One. It is a tangle that reminds of other tangles but it does have a twist!

As our little Pumi did give a show at the class in Rally-obidience this afternoon, Showgirl (Vicki Bassett)was the obvious pattern to follow! Circfleur (Sandy Steen Bartholomew)also wanted to play and Flux and tipple too.

I am exhausted after today but I am quite happy about just being right now and this piece gave me a very relaxed feeling.

After Te Deum-tangle

This evening I have participated in a consert with music from a Swedish composer, Otto Olsson. His opus Te Deum is overwhelming to do and it is still circulating in my head! To relax I made Joey´s challenge this week. The last in a series  of "Finish my tile". The start was Diva Dance (Walz), and to me it is a very musical pattern so that suited me perfect!

I added some more dancing (Rock n´Roll) and those who followed were: Flux, Tipple, Huggins (or is it W2?), Dragon Air (Norma Burnell) and Florez (Andrea Schuman). I am grateful to have been able to sing in a chorus like tonight with such great musicians! And I appreciate to do this tangle as a result of a wonderful day!

Power failure and tangling

This afternoon, very unconvinient, we had a power failure. It was a gloomy day, no sun so I went for the place in our hous were we have most light coming in. That is not in my studio, were I have daylight fluorescent lamps, but in the kitchen. But since the light outdoors were very weak today, it wasn´t the ideal situation for tangling. But there were nothing better I could do for the moment so I went for it. the new focustangle at Square One happens to be Garlic Cloves, and that one I do know by hearth! I choose string 165 (Nancy Eaton) to start with.

For the rest I choose tangles I am familiar with too; Beadline (Margaret Bremner) and Tripoli. Ovy (Adam Roades) is new to me but I found it easy to learn and fun to draw. About the power failure; I don´t track it except when it comes to the shading. But I like the imperfection, it reminds me on the circumstances!

As electricity came back we could have warm food for dinner! It was a reminder of how dependent we are upon electric power. Not much works without it! It is hard to understand the way people had to live long time ago with candlelights and woodstove and... So much work they had to do just for keeping themselves warm! With that in mind I opened my computer and found that Sandy Hunter had come up with a new pattern: Lolly Wimple! I recommend you strongly to go and have a look! Sandy´s instruction on the pattern is worth reading. I wanted to try it at once and I thought it would work in Joey´s challenge this week!

It is in the "finish my tile" series and the start was Buttercup! That is also a pattern from Sandy Hunter!I also added Florz and something I don´t have a name for, but I am sure there is a pattern like those tiny, little shaky lines between the Lolly Wimples!
that´s all for today. Now I am going to use some mor electricity in this house!
