Arukas Day 16-19
![]() |
Arukas as a string. |

I almost gave up on this one but remembered Ricks words on the seminar: Respect what comes out of your pen! |

I saw Sandy´s prompt in TT-keeping it classic. Thought Arukas would like it and she did. |

16th-18th of September and looking back.
three days with String 002 from Tanglepatterns.com.
The patterns: Meer, Florz,Beadline (Margaret Bremner), Onomato, Undling (Susie Achter) and Spawn (Shoshi). This time I found the very first tile when I used this string october 13th 2015! My first year with zentangle! Here it is:
As I made this in a project making one zentangle a day for 365 days I also wrote down the patterns: Tour, Quib and Quipple! It seems so long ago though it isn´t. It is overwhelming to look back like this on early work. I can´t belive it is the same person... but I know it is.

16th-21st of April
I think I could go on playing with Oof maybe for the rest of this month, but I won´t. I stop with Oof drawn with straight lines. This tangleation (or maybe a new pattern?) makes me happy.
I am ahead (?!) in my calendar! I am not able to do anything in it tomorrow soo... I now revisited Umble. A pattern I didn´t like at all when I first learned it. I have tried it a few times after that but Umble has not spoken to me. I rather draw Hollibaugh or something else. I belive it is depending on my hands are a little more shaky than they used to be in my youth. Umble is very easy to learn, it is one stroke and Auras. My lines always seems to wobble. It doesn´t really matter that I slow down as much as I can. Most of the time I doesn´t care about this . In most patterns this isn´t disturbing, on the contrary it adds something. But with Umble I am not sure of that. I have tried to find my way with Umble on this page. I have made it thinner, fatter, with more or less black in it. I admit we are not friends yet, but some steps closer. I haven´t given it up, I will go back to it again further on.

Gourdgeous
To be honest, I am ambivalent about the pattern Gourdgeous. At first sight I always see some vegetable. I like vegetables, that´s not the problem. Now it happens to be the focustangle in Square One. Helen Williams has made some wonderful drawings with Gourdgeous. And here are the original step-outs. As I start to draw it I always realize it is quite fun, and after a while it is also very meditative!
I have turned this one a lot not knowing which way I prefer it, which is good, because a zentangle has no ups and downs, but for now in the blog I let it rest this way. Some Shattuck came along, Tipple and orbs. Gourdgeous has a lot of black in it which makes the drama and I like dramatangles most of the time. Maybe we can make friends Gourdgeous and I....

22nd-27th of March and something colorful!
Revisiting tangles!
22nd: 2n5 by Anita Roby Lavery. Like this playful pattern a lot! So simple and yet so cool to play with!
23rd-27th: Can´T by Chris Titus. First time I met Can´T was in a challenge, I think it was Adele Bruno´s It is a string thing! I was thrilled by the way this pattern seems so different depending on the shading. I didn´t try rounded corners then, but now I did an it was totally something else I saw coming out of the pen! So much fun! I belive Can´T is now going to stay with me!
I have been away a couple of days enjoying to sing Pergolesi´s Stabat Mater in the church of Rasbo. Ofcourse I brought my tangle-kit with me. I used one tile I cut out of a large marbeled sheet of heavy-weight paper that I have kept for years.
Since I have bee busy rehersing Pergolesi I haven´t had the time to try two resent published techniques published by Maria and Rick in the zentangle-app. The first one was to tangle Molygon in a string which looks like a creepy thing going around the tile! I love the little dangerous look of this shape! Then I went for the Cadent-tangleation whick I do appreciate a lot! Some Tipple and Fescu also came along. This is my Happy Eastern tile for all of you!

19th-21st of February
I wasn´t finished with SKYE (Margaret Bremner). I went on in my calendar trying to use the Wholly Hollibaugh-technique demonstrated by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts in their latest KTT-video available in the Zentangle-app. On the 21st I was really confused where to go with it, but I am happy with the result somehow!I had fun too during the process. But now I am going to let Skye rest for a while since I know it will come back to me again!

The Diva´s challenge no. 347
This time Laura Harms asked us to just grab something and use it for a string (tracing it). So I found a roll of scotch in a holder fitting on my tile. Here it is:
I had some fun using Lori Byerly´s patterns: Gr8, Paki and Mashed. Then I had to try some tranzending on it too. I loved to do this challenge, since I feel a little stuck doing my strings in the same style all the time! Thank´s Laura, this was perfect match with me right now!

13th - 15th of January
Now I am trying out patterns from Lori Byerly I haven´t tried yet. The first one is gr8. I loved this one at first sight. I am sure I will use this pattern furtheron. Next one is Ruflz. Easy and fun to draw. The third one is 3 to go. I also liked thisone. It makes me smile doing it!

Featured Artist, non-dominant hand and a calendarpage
Today´s Tangles on FB starts off with a featured artist, Lori Byerly. I have been following her from my own start as a tangler and her patterns has inspired med a lot and opened my eyes to see possibilities without limits in tangling. I love that.
My first tile with her patterns: Her latest, Ledrow on top and as a frame and then underneath; Mashed, which was one of the first patterns of her, that I learned and have used a lot.
Then I saw Lynn Shelton Mead´s tile with Irradial, drawn with her non-dominant hand and I just had to try that:
Drawing with my non-dominant hand is not a new thing for me, I have done that a lot in the past when I was doing sketching of stilleben or living model at the artschool.. To do it with Irradial was fun and I love the way the lines goes their own ways!
Then to my calendar:
I stayed with the Daily Challenge for three more days. A lot of patterns new to me!
10th of January: Zurli (Elena Hadzijaneva), Aniane (Karin Godyns) and Ah Love You (Jane Eileen), which I have seen before but not tried.
11th of January: Soleil (Anne Marks), Farin (Marion Kreutzweg) and Plower (Helen Williams), which I have tried before once.
12th of January: Chain Gain (Aleesha Sattva), Scallops (Suzanne McNeill) and Ziggurat (Sandra Strait). Scallops I have seen before but not tried.
This will be the end of my Daily Challenge in my Calendar for now. But not forever! :) I learned some good things doing this and I hope I can keep them in mind:
1. No Prejudice!
2. Focus on the process, not the result!
3. Embrace and appreciate every single pattern, no matter what you think of it at first sight!

7th-9th of January
Doing one challenge a day following the prompts at ElaToRium is like stepping out of my comfort zone. Most of the patterns I haven´t done before. Some of the patterns are, in my way to see them, tangleations of patterns I know. The point is not to learn as many patterns as possible, but try to follow somebody elses intention and see what I can get out of it or where it leads me. Where is the zen in this? I am only speaking for myself, I am aware of that, but following this, the result is NOT in focus. I try to embrace the patterns whatever goes through my head as I see them. It is like jumping from a cliff not knowing how the landing will be and that might be scarying! For sure there are surprises to expect!
7th: Breeze (Ksenija Vojisavljevic)- I see this as a tangleation of Rixties/Pokeleaf. Winzetta (Loretta West) and Gyro (Mei Hua Teng).
8th: Triaxal (Lizzie Mayne)- A tangleation of Beeline?. Twydl (Emily Perkins)- This pattern was the oposite; My own Mec-Mec must be a tangleation of Twydl, since Emily published this 2013 and I wasn´t even a tangler then :)! Wrap (Dörte Seupel-Kör).
9th: Rauschi (Sandra Strait), ACGT (Mafé Mavronati)- A tangleation of Echoism and something else. Tamisolo (Hanny Nura). Tamisolo is the only pattern I have done before.
I think I´ve learned some things the last six days. One thing is not to be Prejudiced. Because it is not the same thing what I see when I look att a pattern and what is happening drawing it.

28th-31th of December and a Happy New Year 2018
My last post with the calender for 2017. The end of an adventure with tangles.
28th: Phen (Beth Snodderly). I find this pattern interesting. Easy to learn and very simple. Which opens up a lot of possibilities, how to use it, make tangleations and how to embellish it.
29th: Phen with Organic (Sayantika Ray) and Fescu.
30th: Organic, Pen and Opus. Opus is a tangle I don´t use much and it is a tangle I need to work on to make it mine. Tipple down in the right corner too.
Last day of the year. I looked through my calendar and there are a lot of interesting and fun patterns during the year. I picked som of those that were new to me. Balloya came across my way as I saw a video from Melinda Barlow. In March I played with Edgar (Judy Genovese). I met Meshmerize (Tomas Padros) in the autumn and Toodles was in the #Twelvedaysofzentangle from Zentangle.com
Ofcourse there were a lot of other new patterns but as I started with Balloya, that pattern decided which would follow!
I found another very nice pattern as I saw a tile done by Ela Rieger. It is called Flormoeba and is designed by someone with a pseudonym; cherokee 410. I needed to try it on a black tile so here it is:
Isn´t it a lovely pattern! You´ll find it here.
Today it is the first day of the New Year 2018. I had to celebrate it doing my first tile for this year:
Yes, Flormoeba again, Organic (Sayantika Ray) Orbs de La Dee (Anneke van Dam), a blown up part of Featherfall (Carole Ohl), Diva Dance, Striping, Tipple and Fescu.
Well I guess I will go on posting from my new calendar in the future. I got one as a gift from a friend of mine. The tangling in the calendar is very addictive. And I love that addiction!!!

16th to 21st of December
Two more calendarpages on the shortest day of the year. 16th-18th of December Toodeling around with Rumpus and Toodles, two newly released patterns from Zentangle. Both are fun to do but toodles has got something extra I think. 19th-21st of December I remembered Icanthis from last year here with some more Toodles!

10th-15th of December and 12 Day´s for Christmas.
One of those things, I don´t have much time for in December is posting in this blog, or being present in social media. That´s the way it is. I try to make my christmas-cards, and allow myself to prepare things I like to do for christmas. But my calendar is on the priority-list as well as be sure I have a moment for meditation every day.
10-11th, I went for Flux. Flux is a flowing tangle and can go on forever! This was inspired by Molly Hollibaugh´s day two in the 12 Day´s of Christmas.
13th of December is important here in Sweden. We celebrate Lucia from Siracuse. This time of year we need some enlightning in the darkness, the sun doesn´t shine too long during the daytime so Lucia coming whit candles in her hair is popular in more than one way. I felt for star-shaped tangles and started with Afterglo (Carole Ohl, Auraknot (Zt) and X (Lila Popcheff). The stars are accompanied by Striping, Pokeroot, Pokeleaf and Echoism, all (Zt). A little glimpse of blue...
12 Days of Christmas from Zentangle consists of one video a day, starting on 12th of December and is very inspiring. I intend to try them all but in my own pace and own order. Don´t know if I succeed..
Here is my tile for Day One, using Crescent moon, Hollibaugh, Printemps, Bales and Sprinkle. Sometimes it is so good visiting some basics as the Z-string and early learned tangles just trying to do something new with them!
Then I jumped to Day three:
Maria demonstrated her new tangle Rumpus. I followed her instructions to experience this tangle from the start. It was a meditative moment today, doing it like this on a white Zendala and Rumpus will stay in my library of tangles for sure! I love the repetitive strokes, and the possibilities I can imagine for this tangle!

4th-9th of December
I do like my plan to make friends with patterns in December!
4th-6th I spent time whit Phicops (Laura Harms and Brad Harms) and Swarm (Zt). A little Fescu also grow n the 6th. I did improve specially with Phicops, a beautiful tangle.
The last three days I spent with Pea-nuckle (Molly Hollibaugh). I like Pea-nuckle a lot, but I need to work on it to find the flow! Some Swarm and Phicops still wants to participate!

About Prompts + 1st-3rd of December
Right now in early December, the busiest month of the year, I find prompts for tangling very useful. In today´s tangles Sandy Kelley Jones have made some prompts for 1-12 of December and even if I maybe don´t do everyone, I want to do as many as I can. I am one day behind already but the prompt for 2nd of December seemed so fun to do I didn´t want to miss it! Here comes the first one:
1: Use the first tangle I ever did. Don´t know exactly if this was the first one. But anyhow, one of the very early recognizable tangles I did was Hollibaugh!
2: Use the latest tangle: That was easy! Veez by Margaret Bremner!
3: Use a tangle I want to make friends with. There are some but I choose Swarm, which is a tangle that confuses me a lot.
4: Use a bold tangle: What could be more bold than Schway!!!
Here comes the one for yesterday:
I won´t explain this, but the prompt is soooo fun! The patterns I used: Veez (Margaret Bremner), Hypnotic (Elena Hadzijaneva), Papermint (Sandy Hunter), Dewd and `NZeppel. First I thought I should leave the open space in the middle, but then I had to Papermint it! So much fun! Thank´s Sandy!

1st of December: I used the Z-fragment Carole Ohl suggested which I liked a lot. But now we are closer to X-mas, so Ipso (Jennifer Hohensteiner) also wanted to come! 2nd and 3rd: Swarm. The tangle I want to make friends with. We are not there yet but much closer!

28th-30th of November
This was all for November and #Giveatangle2017! Patterns: Drupe, Chain Link (Barbara Finwall), Amphora (Lily MOon) and Batumber (Kelley Kelly). Yes, I tried some tranzending on Drupe!

Striping on a black zendala and calendarpage 25th-27th of November.
In PP01 there was a video with striping on a black presprung zendala. As I didn´t have a presprung black zendala I searched the web and found a template I wanted to try. Here is what I decided to try. I printed the template, used my white charcoalpencil on the back of the paper, placed it on my zendala and traced the lines and so there I had a "presprung" zendala! I don´t use templates very often but for this purpose I thought it would work ok. This is the first time I made a monotangle on a zendala and I must say it was the perfect thing to do on a presprung one! I do enjoy the process working on a zendala very much. So: More zendala in my life is a promise to myself.

Calendar 22nd-24th of November and the Diva´s challenge 342
Margaret Mc Kerihan´s Ta-Da is a favourite of mine though it was some time since I used it. Thank´s to #Giveatangle2017 I found it again! Some small Fengles also joined and then came Phroz (Lynn Shelton Mead) and Viaduct (Wayne Harlow).
I am the Diva´s challenge no 342 is about making a duotangle using Paradox and Bunzo. Paradox is one of those I want to make friends with. The pattern looks complicated, but as Laura Harms says: It isn´t complicated to draw. I don´t use it very often though I find it relaxing and flowing easily. It is something else. I find it difficult to make variations on. If I try to, I am not so pleased with the result. It is like Paradox is so perfect by itself... But I like to let Bunzo play with it. It kind of soften the sharpness in Paradox. I made it on black tile today and here it is:
Bunzo is a kind of wild striping and I like that a lot. Like there are something organic inside it waiting to come out!

Calendar 19th-21th of November and Crescent moon
One thing I like about the calendar is that you never know what the next page will be like! I am surprised about how Flourish turned out and also about Fengle. Bales is also something that surprised med. The variation in the middle is inspired by Martha Huggins video. To me this variation is the same as Puf (Carole Ohl) I didn´t realize it actually is the same tangle! I will use it further on thinking of it as Puffed Bales!!
And now the next video from Zentangle! Crescent moon on black tile! It was so fun to draw this!
If you haven´t already watched the video, I recommend you to do it!
