1st-3rd of May and a new pattern LZ´s!

One never knows where or when a pattern will appear in front of you that just has to be deconstructed! This happened to me a while ago, when I saw a lamp in a designstore. I didn´t take a pic of it, but I immediately made a sketch on a piece of paper I found. As soon as I had a chance I started to play with it in my sketchbook. I let it stay there, I wasn´t sure if this could be something to go on with - could it be to simple? But I liked it and 1st of May I started to do it in my calendar:

Almost immediately an Oops appeared! That was what I was waiting for! A new possible variation! I love when things goes like that! (Oh Yes, Someone dear to me left a note in my calendar without me knowing it!)This pattern could be drawn very freely or very regular. And there are a lot of possible embellishment to do. Or just shading. I had to try it on a tile:

No name yet, just a work-name! Here as a background to Onamato (Zt) and LO´s (mine). As Sandy Kelley Jones saw this she had the right name for it: LZ´s! Thank´s for the help Sandy! And here comes the Step-Out:

Very easy do draw! And in zentangle are NO misstakes, just possibilities! Hope you will enjoy this!

7th-9th of april and Diva´s challenge 359

I found out that I really like to explore a tangle in different ways. To start the exploration in my calendar is so fun. Here is Nipa in focus. I start with the basic pattern and then change a little on the way. Love to do that!

As for the Diva´s challenge 359 I made this:

The challenge was to use my own fingers and trace them on a tile, then using this as a string. A String-challenge. I had some fun and this challenge was a relaxing thing to do, though at first the penciled lines really looked like a mess! Once started to tangle I didn´t think about that.

Daily tangles and I am the Diva´s challenge 353.

There are many techniques to learn in Zentangle-world. Recently Rick and Maria posted a video in the Zentangle-app, demonstrating something they call Wholly Hollibaugh. It is fun to do and easy to learn. I practiced it a few times on little Bijou and here I made it on regular tile 8,9x8,9 cm:

It is like cutting wholes in a pattern to be able to watch what is going on underneath! I used Hollibaugh and Pixioze (Margaret Bremner) for this one, after watching Melinda Barlow´s video. I like to tangle in a round!

Rick and Maria explores this technique aplying it on a couple of tangles so I wanted to give Elven (Elena Hadzijaneva) a try. I also used And (Sandra Harsveld) and Printemps. I am happy the way it turned out and I did enjoy the process.

Next one is a Heart-Zendala for the Diva´s weekly challenge. I hesitated doing this. I think I have had enough of hearts by now. But I searched for a template and found one on pinterest. Since I don´t have any prestrung zendalas this was my option if I didn´t want to create a heartstring myself. It works pretty good to do it like this! Here is my zendala for the Diva:

The patterns: Tipple, Paradox, Hibered and 5C (Ina Sonnenmoser). I am glad I did this challenge after all. It was relaxing and I am satisfied with the outcome. Using a template is very much the same as using a prestrung zendala and there are a lot of them to be found on the internet!

22nd-24th of January

This page was very satisfying to do. I love Geometrical patterns and here I just went for them. Maybe not Flormeoba (Cherokee 410), but she just wanted to be there! The others: Flukes, Cubine, ´NZeppel (all Zt), Riki-Tiki (Renee King), Zig-Zag-Track (Tomàs Padrós) and Veez (Margaret Bremner). Veez is becoming a favourite of mine! Oh yes, there is a Bead-line (Margaret Bremner)too!

Fragment Y4 and more

I try to make a daily tile every day, but sometimes it just ends with doing my calendar. But when I do it I appreciate to be able to have this special moment. When I do it on a Zentangle original tile it is like having a little party. A friend of mine send me a pack of original white tiles for christmas, which means I can do this more often. The difference between the originals and my own handcut tiles from the same quality paper, Fabriano Tiepolo, are mainly the uneven edges. Such a detail means a lot when I tangle and I cannot fix this detail on my own (I doubt I could get the same result with the help of my washing machine! :) ). As Rick sometimes says, commenting  videos from Zentangle.com, there are just small details that makes the whole difference.

I love working with geometrical patterns and today I couldn´t stop myself. Started with dots in the corners and penciled line conecting them, Fragment Y4 from the Zentangle Primer, Veez (Margaret Bremner), Riki-Tiki (Renee King) and finally Sez (Zt). Well Veez lived a life of it´s own and I am not sure it looks like Veez any more, which isn´t important. I had an intention to leave some empty space, but it didn´t work that way today. That is of no importance either, since the process was what it was all about.

Calendar 1st - 3rd of October

November. Grey and heavy. But still a time to tangle! I started off with the suggested fragment for the month, V4. I like the weavy structure of this fragment! Think I will use it more. The rest of the month I will use my calender doing #Giveatangle challenge in the FB-group Today´s tangles. One tangle a day is the theme. 2nd of November: Vitruvius. I made the striping too, since that was on 1st of November! On the 3rd Schway came up. I have read a lot of comments about Schway like "it is not my kind of cup". Well well, how to handle that. I have used it once. But Then it landed in my pile for not-my-kind-of-cup-tangle!!! I have learned something through my zentangle-journey: Not to give up. Just go for it again. And again. Try to make friends. Lets see if that will work for this tangle!

IAST 214 - Mondrian String

I am late with my entry for IAST 214, I know that. But this one is so special I want to do it just to keep it in mind! Adele has made up a string from one of Mondrians very classical kompositions! And we should use Hollibaugh, Beeline and Paradox for this challenge. So here is my entry done in a hurry!

It is not a tile done in perfection, but I do love this idea of a String! In fact I can´t help thinking Dingbatz!!! I loved to do this and I will keep the idea and try it again!

4th, 5th and 6th of August

To tangle in a calendar is fun. I have seen a lot from other tanglers doing the same by now. Some are very structured and some are not. Mine is not. I the calendar I just draw what comes up that day. Recently I have seen several new patterns that are so cool and that I love at the first sight. Three of them jumped into this calendarpage:

4th of August: Beebug (Sarah Fowler). So playful and so flexible!
5th of August: I will try Cadent now and then, so here I started with this pattern. Then there is Scute (Lily Moon Luna) which is a geometric channel-pattern with a lots of possibilities!
6th of August: Oddbalz (Francoise Lip). Also a Channel-pattern with a lot of fun! Drawing this I get a smile on my face!

Diva Dancing in Lisbon

Henrike Bratz, guestblogger on Diva´s challenge, recently visited Lisbon and was fascinated by the patterns she saw on tiles there. I haven´t been to Lisbon, but I have been to places where they have such beautiful tiles on the walls, on the floor, in the bathroom and other places. I know what she is talking about. One of the patterns she has deconstructed and called it The Lisbon fragment. Here is a pic of the pattern:

Museu Nacional do Azulejo, Lissabon

And when you clic here you come to her steps. She asked us to use Diva Dance together with her fragment and the theme is Diva dancing in Lisbon! A wonderful theme. Here comes my entry for this challenge:

Yes. I made it on one of my recycled watercolortiles. I choose this one because I thought of the light at night in a place were people dances somewhere at the Atlantic coast... Maybe Lisbon. Now I have to go back to my photos from Maroc and such places....

Zendala-time

Today it was my Zendala-time. I needed to take my time doing it. The Zendala is like a dance in slowmotion. It takes time. And it is an effort to stay focused longer than it takes to work on an ordinary tile.

In fact it was the recent pattern, C-view, from Ria Matheussen that pushed me into this. The other patterns are Camread (Susan Yeo and her Malaysian friends), Crescentmoon, Fescu with auras, and Printemps.

I started with a dot in the centre and then I made a string with my pencil, very lightly. I also made a circle to be able to do an even frame. I like to draw in a circle a lot. I do. The result is always interesting. I don´t want to use rulers. I don´t want to use tools as I draw a zendala. I have tried to use templates, there are a lot of them to be found searching the net. Right now I prefer not to use them. Don´t ask me why, I don´t have a good answer.

Drawing this, trying to stay focused, I find it very peaceful. Yes. I loved to do it!

16th, 17th and 18th of April

This page starts with the Ressurexion Day! And yes there is the empty tomb!:)

16th of April: Trio (Hanny Nura), Trifle and Beadlines (Margaret Bremner), Cubine, Tipple, and Fescu with Echoing lines.

17th of april: Weben (Idi Lowenherz, Cubine, Pokeroot and Printemps.

18th of April: Weben (Idi L.), Barquillos (Maria Tovar), Balloya (Anya Lothrop), 5CAura (Ina Sonnenmoser), Wheelz (Joyce Block) and Pokeroot.

Weben is a new favourite of mine I think. One thing about this last page. It is so crowded. Lots of tangles and the open spaces, where are they? Maybe they´ll show up some day.....

Weben - a monotangle

Weben (Idi Lowenherz) is an easy to learn tangle. I did go for it today.

I used a simple string and as I worked on it I just let it go. It is a piece of imperfection but imperfection as I love it. There are oopses and they are welcome. I felt very relaxed doing this. No judging. No planning. Just go for it.

Diva´s challenge no 311

I made a try doing the Divas challenge 311 on freehand. As I found out a very geometrical pattern built upon squares was the focustangle in Square One I knew this was the way to try it. Weben (Idi Lowenherz) is a new pattern to me and this is my first attempt on it ever.

Maryhill (Betsy Wilson) is the circular pattern, which I haven´t done for some time now, but the pattern in itself makes a circle and then it works as a Circle-Square-String-theory for me like this! I think I will do some more Weben, I have in mind this is a pattern with possibilities!

Circle-Square-String Theory

I am the Diva´s challenge this week is about Circle-Square-String-Theory. This is the Divine Geometry! I do love Geometry. That was the part of mathematics in school I felt motivation to learn and I also in a strange way was good at it! I could sit and draw triangles, Squares and Circles for a very long time trying to figure out the way they worked together. I wanted them to be exact to be good enough. So for this challenge I did use a stencil for the circle and a ruler for the Square. Just to get back to that state of mind I used to be in doing such things at school. I worked on a 3Z since I also wanted the triangle to be present!

I won´t use those things regularly doing zentangle since I do like the freehand nonperfectional way to do it! But here it is with the patterns 5C Aura by Ina Sonnenmoser and Tipple (Zt). I found 5C Aura at Melinda Barlows blog here and I did like the pattern at once. So easy to learn and so much zen doing it! Thank´s Melinda!

11th of February

My Calendar for today:

Crescent moon. then I choose Reticula A2 with Fragment Q2. Then Florz (Zt) passing by and Web (Suzanne McNeill).

In SquareOne Flowery (Ina Sonnenmoser) is the Focustangle. I was just wondering what kind of hearts I would like to use for Valentines tangling. Here it is!

I prefer to see hearts instead of flowers in this tangle! Or heartpetals.... The other tangle is Waax (Esther Piszczek), a new found one for me. The string is 238 (Beth Snoderly).

10th of February

My first try on Ria Matheussen´s pattern Zimba.

A play with geometry. The pattern has a lot of possible variations. I like that. I admire the way Ria has deconstructed a pattern that looks quite complicated into this pattern that is easy to learn and remember. If you visit the link above to the steps, you´ll know what I mean.

18th and 19th of January

There has been a lot of Dewdrops in the Zentangle-groups on Fb. I have tried to do them some times but even if the result was satisfying, they didn´t look too much as dewdrops. Yesterday I decided to give this a chance one more time following Lynn Shelton Meads stepout. I did this slowly, using a pattern I found very early in my tangling journey; Dro´t/Wire/Drath by someone who calls him/her Ferenc Nagy. I am unsure about if this name is for real. There was a very famous Ferenc Nagy in Hungary who died in 1979. This couldn´t be him. I liked the pattern anyway and I have used it a lot when I learned it. Now it came back to me and I am still very happy about it. I also liked the dewdrops this time, but I can see I still need to practice them!

Today´s date means a new page in the calendar.

This is a monotangle. I used Crescent moon all the way but in the main space I draw it with straight lines only. I like the outcome and I also like the wobbling lines in this case!

Today´s meditation went into another direction:

In my personal challenge I have come to string 229 (Lianne Woods). this string is perfect for geometry and symmetry! So here I went for Rick´s Paradox (Zt) and `NZeppel! Rick´s Paradox is so special and to do it I have to slow down. I am quite happy about the outcome!

3d of January

3d day with the calendar!

The idea of connecting the days feels good so far!

I have to use my scanner for the pics, since it is more convenient than to work with the camera. For the third day Rixties (Zt) connected with the spiral fragment yesterday. Rixties went on into Laced (Mary Elisabeth Martin) and I needed a room for the playing tangles so 3D-Room (Damy Teng) was perfect!

Today´s meditation, before going to bed:

Patterns: Icanthis, Rain, Hibered,Hollibaugh, Tipple, Jetties and Rick´s Paradox, all official zentangles. String 222 (Barbara Finwall).

måndag 2 januari 2017

2nd day of the New Year

2nd Day with the calender. I would like to connect the days in some way. The first day lead to the second and so on...

There are three days on each page so this should be possible. On my second day I wanted to try Carole Ohls suggestion; a double spiral fragment in a grid.

I choose Amaze as the "background". The space to tangle on (59x62mm) is less than an ordinary tile (89x89mm). That helps to keep it simple. It is also another kind of paper, smooth and slightly glossy. It is fun and I don´t need a lot of time to do it. Very deliberating!

Then I made my daily tile using string 221 (Sandra Hart).

The patterns are: Cracked (Lori Howe), 3D-room (Dami Teng) and Sez (Zt). I brought Sez into this because that is a pattern I haven´t made to mine. It isn´t yet either, but I want to go on with it to see where it can lead.

string 217 and 218

If anyone wonder where string 216 has gone I asure you I have done it. I won´t expose it yet though, since I have done that one for a friend of mine and she won´t get it immediately.  But here is string 217 (Lianne Woods):

The patterns are: Starawn (Judy Murphy), ´NZeppel, Ing and up in the corners a fragment I made up from a pattern I have used, don´t remember the name. I like to draw Ing. I love geometry. Ing is one of those patterns I seldom use though and the reason is: it is a challenge to make it work with other patterns. At least for me. But in this case I am quite happy about it.

string 218 (Mei Hua Teng):

The patterns are: All boxed up (Alice Hendon), Yincut (Zt) and Florz (Zt). I do love patterns that are built on straight lines only and this pattern from Alice Hendon is great in it´s simplicity! And it is very forgiving when the lines wobble around because of an unsteady hand!
