Dingsplatz and IAST285

I have been having fun with Dingsplatz for a couple of days along with the Way Bop-thing. This is an easy technique to limit the work-space. Rick and Maria demonstrates how to do this in a video you find here. It is addictive and it is very relaxing. So when Adele Bruno asked for Dingsplatz in her challenge no. 285 it was right up in my alley!

This one I made on a rennaissance-tile a week ago and in the center I used Fragment D23. Then a lot of orbs, Crescentmmon and some Fescu.

This one is from my Cappucino-journal (which I like very much, the paper is of a kind that makes it possible to work on both sides of a page). In the center I used Spoken and Striping. Then Crescentmoon again and orbs and auras.

My latest Dingsplatz for IAST 285. In the center Fragment E25, Then Shattuck and Betweed and Orbs.

I love to do them. They just land on the paper/tile or whatever I draw on!

Sometimes I need some blue - IAST 263

Last night when I sat down tangling I decided to try IAST 263. At the start I wasn´t too happy about the choice of string for this challenge. The patterns are great: Kettling (Ria Matheussen), Sails (Helen Williams) and Ahh (Zt). It happens that the string doesn´t talk to me and this was such an occaison. I hesitated, but I wanted to try Ria´s new pattern and Sails I haven´t done for a while, though it is a favourite of mine! I have learned a few things through the zentanglejourney of mine and one thing is: Don´t worry, just relax and go with it!  So here is my first result:

As I wasn´t too happy about it, I went to bed and slept on it. This morning I watched it carefully and decided it needed something more. My watercolorpencils! And my favourite blue, Preussian Blue!

So this is the final one for this challenge! I am glad I went on with it. This was a good exercise for me to train my patience and my confidence in the process. There will always be a way and an outcome that I might not have been expecting! This is one thing I love about the Zentangle method!

28th-30th of September and IAST 262

I have been visiting my grandchildren this weekend. A lot of fun was going on. Not much tangling though! But here is my calendarpage with three takes on string 32. Patterns: Mooka, Tipple, Beelight, Static, Striping, ´NZeppel and Hibred. All of them official zentangles. I wanted to do IAST 262 badly, but I think I might be too late. I made it in my new sketchbook on tan paper.

Gourdgeous and Woooo (Joan Stark). Gourdgeous is not my best friend, but I like the drama it causes! Now I make the post to Adele Bruno and if I am lucky it will come to here in time!

I found this sketchbook Saturday, as I was in Stockholm with my grandchild, 4 years old. The book is from Hahnemühle and the paper is called Cappucino. It is wonderful paper, doesn´t bleed through at all! Gourdgeous was a test!

IAST 261

There are strings and strings. This week´s challenge from Adele Bruno offered a string I do like a lot! A string with straight lines as well as a beautiful curve. So here is my entry:

I used the cardstock I got from my printing friend and I like the surface more each time I use it. The patterns are 3 Loops 6 (Mina Hsiao) and Hexonu (Cherryl Moote). I have tried 3 Loops 6 once before, but as I almost forgot about it I am so happy that Adele reminded me about this pattern!

Celebrating IAST 5 years!

Adele Bruno has made challenges with strings for 5 years! It is amazing and I have been following this , not for 5 years, but I am so impressed that she has been able to do this. So much fun you share with us Adele! So here is my contribution for this event:

The patterns as suggested for this challenge: Knights Bridge, Kitl (Jem Miller), O (Adele Bruno) and Prestwood (Margaret Bremner).

Rain in the Calendar and IAST259

Rain is a zentangle-original pattern, I learned early in my tangling journey from the book of Bekah Krahula. I did like it a lot at the start, but I havent used it so much. Like Fengle, though that pattern came in my way later on. So now I decided to spend some time in my calendar with them and I still like to play with them! Drawing Rain I have a lot of fun exploring Lynn Shelton Mead´s examples in her Tangle-Deck 1.

We are supposed to use Diamante (Carol Therrien), Sling Slang (Lisette Hofer), 7 Keys (Teresa Clerc) and Hollibaugh. Hollibaugh was the only one I knew! To learn three new to me patterns, well that was a challenge right now! But then the real challenge was to get them together into the suggested string! Hollibaugh, where did you go?? Yes Hollibaugh is there as a reticula! This was fun and I am happy with the outcome! Thank´s Adele for a relaxing challenge!

22nd-24th of August and IAST257

There are round boxes! Hats often comes in round boxes. Chocolate might also. Sometimes the lid is translucent too! Often they also appear with beautiful ribbons. So the last three days I made the boxes round. The patterns which appears are: Printemps (Zt) Arcflower (JJ La Barbera), Zenribbon with fragment K3 and a fragment of my own, Lollywimple (Sandy Hunter) and Well well well (Zt). I wanted the surrounding to be black but I also knew that too much black on the calendarpage would bleed through so I just gave it one layer. First I didn´t like the striped effect but then I heard from some friends this added something to the page and now I kind of like it as it came out. I also go a very good tip from Sue Zanker how to prevent the bleeding and get it all really black: Go back on the blackened surface with a soft blac colorpencil and work it in! I will sure try that next time I do something like this!

IAST 257 is all about a recent published pattern, Twilight,  by Jody Genovese. Here is my first take on it (not my last I belive):

Twilight reminds me of a couple of other patterns, Footlight and Munchin f.ex. Only straight lines this time. Straight lines are interesting in another way than curved lines and sometimes I love to celebrate the straight ones! Not using rulers or anything else then my free hand ofcourse. It is a lot of zen in drawing a line slowly, breath and stay focused. The lines are not perfect and shouldn´t be. I like it this way!

There are spectacular skies in the evenings here now! Last nights dogwalk gave me this:

A little bit like Twilight.....

IAST 256

IAST 256 is all about Ria Matheussen´s patterns and doing it in a round.I have tried Hexa once before, Horti and Mazorito are new to me. I like them all but Mazorito is a tangle I took to my heart at once!

This is the way it went. I made Hexa in a wonky way and I liked the way it comunicates with the rest on this zendala. Thank you Ria for sharing your most interesting patterns! I will get back to them all I belive!

Celebrating Lunar Eclipse - Blood-Moon with IAST253

Did you see the Moon-Eclipse last night? Here in Sweden we call it Blood-Moon. I watched the part of it I could see from here where I am and doing this I realized I should have taken my car and gone to some place else where we could see the whole thing better. But I have watched a lot of great photos people have taken! Today I went for IAST 253

With Nipa, Crescent Moon and Printemps we were supposed to celebrate the Moonevent in a M-string. These patterns were all perfect doing this and I enjoyed it much more than I thought of. The moon itself was in my mind constantly while tangling this tile. I was thinking of using color but then I decided enough is enough and I am satisfied with it the way it is. Thank´s Adele for one more pleasant and relaxing challenge!

16th-18th of July and IAST 252

The summertangles continues with Dillo (Lori Manoogian), a day for a Gem in company with a lot of stuff and then XYP (Zt) with Cubic (Karl Stewart) and Cubine (Zt). About the Gem. I seldom draw gems, though I find them quite interesting and relaxing to draw. I also find them meditative. But they are dominant and easily takes the focus from the rest of the drawing. Here with my gem the other patterns drawn are Meer, Tagh, Tipple, some baby Mookas (all Zt), Cruffle (Sandy Hunter) and LZ´s (mine).

IAST 252 was somewhat different this time. We should use Deeday (Angie Gistles) in a simple grid-string and then use this pattern also as a string. Here is what I came up with:

First I want to say that Deeday is an interesting pattern/fragment in itself worth exploring so I think I will go on with that further on. But here I used it as a string too and the patterns added are. Purk, Printemps, Striping (all Zt) an Zenplosion (Danny O´Brian). I made it on a tan tile, not original, but this surface is quite good to work on too.

Today I also finished a zentangle-inspired painting made in mixed-media. The heat outdoors makes me live in my cool studio which means I am very happy!!!

The pattern showing up in this painting is my latest favourite: Gottago (Lianne Woods).

IAST 251 and calendar 10th-12th of July

IAST 251. It´s a String Thing!I love this challenge, since I really enjoy working with the string in focus. The string is supposed to be the guidance through the process. I had no possibility to do the last one, 250, but this one I did. The patterns suggested were Stikz (Laurel Sponseller), which is a tangleation of BB (Zt), and Munchin (Zt). Stikz was a new one to me so I wanted it to play the lead with the string. I belive Stikz can do a lot of things, but this is the way it went for me and I enjoyed the process.

My calendar for 10th-12th of July:

The theme for the rest of July I have decided to be the prompts for Summertangles 2018. I was a late starter with this, but never mind. I used Ponio (Damy), Fescu, Cubine and Opus. On the 11th it should have been Cubic, but in my head it said Cubine and I think I know why. Ever since I learned Cubine it just get me going and I never know where it will take me!  So I am sorry Cubic, but I´ll get back to you later on! I promise! On the 12th the prompt said Monotangle! I just picked a card randomly from Lynn Shelton Mead´s Tangle Deck and that was the Opus card! I don´t draw Opus often but I always like what happens when I do.

25th-30th of June and IAST 249

Arriving home safely from a trip to Östhammar, where we had a wonderful workshop with amazing people, I am able to post again! I start with the calendar:

The summer is in a mighty bloom and this shows in my calendar too! I started with Arc Flower (JJ La Barbera)- a long time no seen, I almost forgot how much I appreciate this pattern! Then I ran into Mumsy (Sandy Steen Bartholomew), with some Purdy (Margaret Bremner) and then Tri-Bee (Beate Winkler).

On the 28th another flowerlike pattern was the starter: Cyme (Zt). And Cyme went into Daniel Lamothe´s Dreamcatcher! On the 29th I came to Östhammar and of course there was a lot of Rock´n Roll going on!! Giving the birth to Undu (Daniel Lamothe) and Asian Fans (Suzanne McNeill) and then ending with Mookas and Tipple.

I just have to show you the results from the workshop, since it was so lovely! Here are the pics:

Yesterday, before I started my travel back home, Gerd Vading, my hostess and I made a trip to an exhibition outside town. There I saw some wonderful pictures made by two participants of the workshop! These went straight into my heart:

Marja Forsberg has made a portrait of Lars Lerin (a Swedish great artist of watercolor). It is a weave, and it has so much of life in it! Here is a closeup:

And her son Leif Forsberg is a great painter. You can see for yourself:

I love the color and the unique expression in these two paintings!

Well, back home I sat down doing the challenge from Adele this week. It is challenge 249 and it is all about getting Abeko (Lynn Shelton Mead) and the Diva Dance into a string.

The way it went was a little surprise to me, the Abeko totally took care of the rocking Diva Dance! I loved that!

IAST 248 and 20th-24th of June

IAST 248 was challenging for me! A monotangle with Drupe. No it is not the monotangling. But to get it into the string! Not very long ago Imade friends with Drupe. This tangle has its own life and it can be very beautiful! But it is also one of those that doesn´t want to go with any string. So here it is as it went.  It was fun to do it! Thank´s Adele for this challenge!

As we have celebrated midsummer here in Dalarna Sweden, there hasn´t been much time for tangling. Midsummer is very special here where I live so it is just to go with the flow!

But here comes my calendarpages:

19th-21st I played with Lynn Shelton Mead´s Zentwining. It was fun and relaxing! An other way of  using the string and ribbons!

22nd-24th I started with the Drupe to get in the mood to make the IAST challenge! Beadlines followed, Arukas, Jonqual and then Nik (Bunny Wright) and Purdy, Margaret Bremner´s new tangle. I was happy with this page, it just draw itself!

IAST 247

Tangling using a string is something I appreciate a lot. It affects me in a certain way, yes it is  a liberating feeling doing this. To be honest, most of the time I do use a string. Here comes my entry for IAST 247 :

For this special string we should use D´Rua (Damy), A´Dalfa (Bunny Wright and Dex (Zt).Dex and A´Dalfa are old favourites of mine, D´Rua is new to me. It has become a new friend I think. Easy to learn, easy to draw, just let it go the way it goes. I love that! Thank´s to Adele for this happy moment of tangling!

7th-9th of May , Loev and IAST 246

As I saw Lori Byerly´s calendarpage I realized that Veezley by Sandy Hunter was a patter I had missed. And it is a beautiful one! I had to try it! A second pattern was Loev, which is the focus tangle in Square One. Loev is fun to draw! I went on with it in my sketchbook and on a couple of tiles.

My first one, Loev is kind of swallowing the air around! Or something like that. I had a big smile on my face doing this. The next one:

Now I tried it without embellishment and with. Together with Veezley and a little Mooka. It is quite funny I think!

I haven´t been into IAST for some time now. This last one, 246, Adele Bruno wanted us to try Helen Williams tangle String Grid. this is a lovely one and it speaks to my lovely part I think (yes I have got one)! A lot is possible to do with this pattern, but I kept it simple, just to understand the way it is done.

Ofcourse there are a lot of possible things to do with the negative spaces here, but I like the airyness in the pattern itself. Still I wanted to add something except the blue color and as a coincidence, Margaret Bremner recently posted a new pattern, Purdy which has this airyness in common with String Grid!  I think they work fine together and some Beadlines (Margaret Bremner) also made this pattern get a little extra without reducing the lightness. I liked to do this and I guess I am not through with String Grid! Thank´s to Adele Bruno I did pay attention to it!

IAST 215

I don´t work n ATC-size (8,9x6,4 cm) very often. But I got a few black ATC:s from a friend. I wanted to try this weeks IAST-challenge #215 on this one:

Two patterns suggested for the string: Clob (Jem Miller) and Delys (Jenna Black). Love them both and will sure use them further on!

IAST 214 - Mondrian String

I am late with my entry for IAST 214, I know that. But this one is so special I want to do it just to keep it in mind! Adele has made up a string from one of Mondrians very classical kompositions! And we should use Hollibaugh, Beeline and Paradox for this challenge. So here is my entry done in a hurry!

It is not a tile done in perfection, but I do love this idea of a String! In fact I can´t help thinking Dingbatz!!! I loved to do this and I will keep the idea and try it again!

IAST 211 - Ampersand

Never heard of Ampersand National Day! But now I have. Through Adele Bruno and A String Thing!

Here comes my very late Ampersand-tile:

The name Ampersand wasn´t familiar to me either. We call it Et. But now I know.  I used Aa:s (Judy Murphy), Star map (Suzanne McNeill) and Striping (Zt).

So happy to hear that Adele is safe after Irma! So this is a happy Ampersand!

More Spoken for IAST 209

I am in a hurry to let my Spoken away for IAST 209. Not to make it but to post it. Here it is:

Adele asked for a monotangle in her challenge. This is almost a monotangle. Printemps jumped in and I couldn´t do much about that!

Happy Birthday IAST! And triangles in my calendar.

Isn´t this amazing! Adele Bruno has challenged tanglers all over the world for four years now! IAST Happy birthday to you! Every birthday adds one more candle to the string. Here is my happybirthdaytile for IAST 208.

The patterns for the celebration are: Trella (Adele Bruno), Copada (Margaret Bremner), Wud (Joni Feddersen) and Knightsbridge (Zt). I colored this tile with micron and watercolor. It took me some time to figure out where to start and how to make this. Then I decided to skip the planning and started with my favouriteborder, Wud. This is what came out. All patterns Adele wanted us to use are there! I am surprised!

In my calendar I tried to use patterns with triangles only the last three days. I love triangles and very often I come back to triangles as I paint. It also happens that Marguerite Samama is the guestblogger for the Diva´s challenge and she chose a fragment as a challenge. Fragment D1. As I thought about it I immediately saw that it would be perfect for my little triangle-play! So this will be my first entry on that challenge!

16th of August: Impossible triangles, Fragment D1 from Zentangle Primer and Knase.
17th of August: Fragment D1, D11, `NZeppel and Munchin.
18th of August: Tringle (Lara Williams) and `NZeppel.

Tringle was all new to me, I found it here.
